Five tips to being accreditation ready
As a specialist consultancy service in the health and community service space, our team at QIP Consulting work with a number of clients to support them in getting accreditation-ready. From gap assessments to the full implementation of industry standards, our team has provided a range of accreditation-based consultancy services to small and large organisations across Australia.
We recognise that when organisations are focused on trying to undertake ‘business as usual’, the process of accreditation can sometimes be overwhelming and that’s where we can help. We work one-on-one with our clients to ensure we can support them on their accreditation journey, while empowering them to implement quality improvement initiatives and practical change to make the accreditation process part of ‘business as usual’.
To help get you started, we’ve rounded up five tips to assist your team in getting accreditation ready:
-
1. Make accreditation a standing agenda item
The more you talk about accreditation and embed it into your day-to-day processes, the less overwhelming the process will feel. Discussing accreditation with your team will also mean that the workload can be shared and a greater sense of accomplishment will be felt across the team when you achieve accreditation.
-
2. Utilise resources available to you
Industry standards usually reference a range of support documentation. It is helpful to take the time to review these documents to ensure you don’t waste time developing content already available to you. Also remember to check what your accreditation provider has in terms of client resources as some have a wide range of complimentary documents and templates available as part of the accreditation service.
-
3. Allocate time and plan for accreditation
Although for some of us, human nature leads us to leave everything to the last minute, it’s important to allocate time to undertaking accreditation and to utilise this time to effectively plan what you need to do. By planning in advance you’ll also have more time for delegation and won’t be lumped with trying to gather up all your evidence prior to any deadline dates.
-
4. Embrace accreditation as an opportunity for quality improvement
Approaching accreditation as a process for quality improvement, will decrease your stress levels while also allowing you to see learning opportunities in areas that need further development. Embracing this mind-set will support you to recognise ways you can make your organisation better, and to them feel a sense of accomplishment when you take the appropriate steps to make positive change.
